12. What does Esca® mean?

Both the name Esca and the technology were inspired by the dangling light lure used by the anglerfish to attract its prey.

Anglerfish are famous for their unusual predatory technique. They use a “fishing pole” (illicium) that has a fleshy growth at the end called esca. This esca is the bait that the anglerfish uses to lure in its prey.

We built on this idea and expertly combined microchip technology with nature’s age old techniques to produce a deadly-effective attractor.
